Communities of Practice

Communities of practice are self-governing groups of people who share a passion for the common domain of what they do and strive to become better practitioners, by learning from and with each other. They create value for their members and stakeholders through developing and spreading new knowledge, productive capabilities, and fostering innovation. That's why community-based approaches are gaining momentum in the private and public sectors, as well as in civil society.

“It is not surprising that communities of practice are central to successful knowledge management initiatives... [they are] a channel for knowledge to cross boundaries created by workflow, functions, geography, and time.” Building and Sustaining Communities of Practice - a study by American Productivity and Quality Center.

Communities of practice are where the deep knowledge of any professional domain can be found. When properly supported by the right social, knowledge and tecnology infrastructures, it’s easy to find it; you just go to the community’s online home, search their knowledge base, and find the needed piece of content or contact with experienced members.

Practices worth replicating can travel as fast as posting a video on the company's Communities portal. Innovative, emergent ideas and practices can catch the attention of all  colleagues who can benefit from it, within minutes. What will the web-enabled blossoming of co-creativity in social, business, learning, and technical innovation, make possible? We are here to help you discover that.

We design, facilitate and coach CoP projects of all size, from small-scale pilots to develop corporate-wide strategy for value-creation with communities of practice. We complement our strategic advisory role with workshops, executive briefings and online seminars on sponsoring and facilitating communities of practice, tailored to the specific situation of each client system.
